In a separate article, Workiversity researched careers that will experience the largest increase in job openings through 2022; however, there is more to consider than job stability. Many students are concerned with identifying a career that is stable, but are more focused on selecting a rapidly growing career path that will allow for more room for career advancement.
Using the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ (“BLS”) calculations of expected job opportunities based on job type and experience, Workiversity identified the ten careers most likely to experience a rapid increase in job openings over the next decade. Focusing on jobs for college graduates without experience in the industry, the following careers are expected to see the highest percentage of job openings through 2022:
Some of these career paths are already more established than the others, so it is important to also consider how many total jobs will be available in 2022. A rapid increase in job openings is extremely important, but it is equally important to consider the overall number of job openings. The total number of expected jobs for each career listed above is as follows:
Using this information, it would appear that although some careers, such as Geographer or Biomedical Engineer, will most likely experience rapid job growth, a career in a field that already provides numerous job opportunities could be a safer selection for today’s college students.
