10 Careers Without Growth for the Next Decade


Most industries can expect job growth over the next decade, but which 10 careers are the exception? Many college students are trying to select careers with forecasted job cuts over the next decade, but it can be difficult to identify those occupations.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (“BLS”) calculates expected job opportunities based on job type and experience. Analyzing the data provided by the BLS, and focusing on jobs for college graduates without experience in the industry, 10 careers are expected to have a decrease in job openings by 2022:

Should you consider pursuing a career in one of these industries, despite the possible decreasing prospects of employment? It may depend on the salaries offered in those industries:

Based on this information, it is possible that a career in Biological Science may still be worth pursuing, with a median annual wage of $72,700; however, a job in proofreading or news reporting be too risky due to a decrease in job opportunities coupled with medial annual salaries below $40,000.
